We stayed at this hotel because it was my great aunt's favorite AC hotel and it was cheap. We heard it was being renovated, so we thought it would be in good condition. We purchased the stay and play package, which included parking, gym access, and $10 food voucher.
The room was very clean and updated. When we got there, we were told we were upgraded to a renovated room. Two weird things about the room: there was a part at the top of a shower wall that looked like it needed to be covered by a grate or something - it was an opening with some metal around it. Quality control on the construction probably wasn't great. Also, the bathroom door slid open and closed - not a pocket door - just a door that slid back and forth in front of the door frame. There was a 1/2" gap between the wall and the door when it was closed so you could see out of the bathroom at an angle. You couldn't see in the bathroom, but not as much privacy as you might want. This was a king room - not sure if all the rooms were like that.
We were right next to the service elevator and there was a constant knocking sound in our room - hard time sleeping the first night.
Hotel and 24 karat club staff was very helpful - but I did have to wait a while and go back a couple of times to make sure I received the stay and play extras.
Food wasn't great. Breakfast buffet was terrible compared to the Borgata's. It's totally worth the extra couple of dollars.
They were moving around some slot machines and some were inaccessible for the renovation, but it wasn't terrible.
The stay and play package included free parking, but there was never anyone at the gate to take the parking fee - so that was a waste. We were there on weekdays.
The package also included gym access. I'm not sure what they would have charged if we wanted to go otherwise. We asked the 24 Karat Club staff about the gym. We were told it was under construction, but that the older machines were in the spa area. We went to look and found maybe 4 machines right near the receptionist desk at the spa. At around 9pm it was all closed up. Never got the benefit of the gym passes. I didn't see all the machines listed on their website, but we didn't go back while it was open either. As of 1/4/2012, gym renovation was not yet completed.
I would advise against paying extra for the stay and play package. Especially since I wasn't very impressed with the food. We got there around 8pm the first night and the only food available was Michael Patrick's Brasserie. Food was ehh. Everything else was closed at that time.
Those are the nit-picky issues with the place. Overall, it was a very clean hotel/casino and the staff was very nice. Definitely an older crowd.
I would stay there again.
