The hilarious George Lopez rolls into the Atlantic City for one night only. His blend of uproarious comedy and spot-on social commentary has been entertaining fans for more than a decade, and he is bringing that style to the Borgata Events Center on May 18th.
George Lopez came onto the mainstream comedy scene in 2000, and since then, he has carved out his own unique spot as a poignant cultural comedian and a figurehead for the Latin American community. Aside from his many other projects that have crossed industry lines like being an HBO commentator and a guest star in a number of movies, he still keeps up with his original love of stand-up comedy. He has had a number of stand-up specials and HBO specials that have lifted him to a household name in the world of comedy.
Moving On and Moving Up
In recent years, Lopez has become a well-known television star on his show, “George Lopez”. After six seasons, the popular ABC show came to an end in 2007, but no one thought that would be the end of Lopez’s small-screen career. He recently signed on with FX to star in a new show called “Saint George”, which he also co-created.
The show is set to begin production in August, and will focus on the struggles of a divorced working class Mexican-American who becomes a successful entrepreneur. It promises to bring the same comedic sparkle of Lopez’s previous television roles, incorporating the slow breakdown of cultural stereotypes while still flying along at a laugh a minute pace.
“I’m Not Gonna Lie”
Being on the small screen and the silver screen isn’t big enough to contain his talent, so he has put his thoughts down on paper in the form of a new book, called “I’m Not Gonna Lie: And Other Lies You Tell When You Turn 50″. The comedian reached the half-century mark 2 years ago, and wants to share his clever perspectives and insights on aging as a celebrity, a father, a comedian, and a freshly-divorced bachelor. The book was released last week, on May 7th, and has already received a number of positive reviews.
The book is also packed with the wacky ideas that have made Lopez such a popular comedian of recent times, many of which cross over into his stand-up acts. The show on May 18th at the Borgata Event Center in Atlantic City will be yet another hilarious evening of thought-provoking bits and side-splitting laughter. The Borgata Events Center is attached to the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa, so be sure to book your room early, since Atlantic City is packed with events that weekend.
If stand-up comedy isn’t up your alley, check out some of the other events on in the city, including the Golden Boy Boxing Series: Lamont Peterson vs. Lucas Matthysse.
