Keeping It Light

Sometimes, it’s difficult to get past all of the complications and difficulties of life and remember to have a bit of fun when you can. Luckily, there are still musicians who can remind us about the goofy side of life, and after more than two decades, the Barenaked Ladies are still able to put smiles on their fans’ faces. Starting from their initial hits like “One Week” and “If I had $1,000,000″, they rose to international acclaim and they developed the notorious reputation of being hilarious live shows and genuinely entertaining behavior. They grew up a bit as they aged, but their on-stage banter and comedic lyrics haven’t changed too much. What’s more, they’ve done their best to stay in the public eye, especially since writing the catchy theme song to the hit television show “The Big Bang Theory”.

There have been a few face changes in the group since it was first formed in 1988. The most recent departure was by Steven Page, who co-founded the band along with Ed Robertson. However, some things never change, and they aren’t going to let the loss of a founding member change their image. They are actually writing the entire script of an upcoming musical based on National Lampoon’s Animal House, so their finger is still clearly on the goofy pulse of America. They’ve also managed to clean up in terms of awards, and along with more than 15 million records sold, they have won 7 Juno Awards and have even been nominated for two Grammy awards. Here is the music video from their latest hit song, “Odds Are”.

Still Grinning

Two decades of popularity would leave any band smiling, and their latest album, which was released in June of 2013 reflected that sentiment. It was called “Grinning Streak”, perhaps a subtle tip of the cap to the fact that this lovable group has managed to make it big through laughter, clever lyric writing, and genuine passion for performance. It isn’t too often that a fun-loving group of misfits from Canada become music legends, but the Barenaked Ladies have certainly done their best to live up their fans’ expectations. They still tour regularly, and are currently in the middle of a 2013-2014 tour that will extend to the UK as well as many American spots. When the band isn’t recording new music, writing musicals, and touring, they occasionally take cruises, and these “Ships and Dip” Cruises are a mixture of live performances, comedy, and some time to actually hang out with fans in a contained environment with cruise ship companies like Norwegian Cruise Lines. The Barenaked Ladies have participated in 4 of these unique cruises and will probably continue to do so in the future, so keep your eyes peeled!

If you’ve never seen this brilliantly entertaining band live, then be sure to get your tickets now for their show at the Tropicana Casino in Atlantic City on October 19th at 8:30pm. Any of the top-notch Atlantic City Hotels provide a perfect place to relax before and after the show, and given the location of the Barenaked Ladies’ concert, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to simply book your room at the Tropicana! Also, if goofy rockers from the 1990s aren’t your idea of a good night out, then catch the hilarious stand-up of Jerry Seinfeld and the Borgata Events Center instead, which is going on that same night!
