It’s happening at Atlantic City Hotels and Casinos

To understand why Charlie Prose is such an influential man, it is important to understand exactly where he came from. It all started at a grocery store that was run by his father, and the other members of his family. He was thirteen years of age when the salesman entered the store and showed him the old saxophone. It didn’t take long for him to obtain it and within two weeks, he’d learned to play the saxophone well enough to start his own band.

That was the beginning, and as you can see, it’s not exactly a humble beginning. When someone has a gift, it is his or her obligation to share it with the rest of the world, and that’s exactly what Charlie Prose did. Ever since then, even to this day Charlie Prose has been giving liver performances, making people laugh and live a little. It is even said that the fans feel as if they have a personal relationship with him. How many entertainers out there can pull that off?

Continuing the tradition, on December 4, 2009 through December 6, 2009 on Friday, 9 pm, Saturday, 8 pm and Sunday, 3 pm one can see Charlie Prose perform with David Grayson at Trump Plaza. The entry fee is $35 and a good time is guaranteed to be had by all.

For the past thirteen years, Charlie Prose has performed at Atlantic City, and so far, it’s been the longest running holiday show there. He provides clean humor, which is something that you don’t see much anymore. On top of that, it’s enjoyable humor. It’s been a while since someone was able to deliver a funny like without making a sexual reference or uttering a curse word. So when you hear the name Charlie Prose, you know it’s safe to take your entire family along.

The show is sold out every year, and this year in New Jersey should be no different. Though it seems that mostly senior citizens enjoy his routine, it’s clear that anyone can sit back and enjoy this light heated humor.

For those of you who don’t know, Trump Plaza is located below pacific avenue near the beach. It should be easy to find, and if you cannot, just ask a city official where the Charlie Prose show is! There’s no doubt that someone will be able to point you to it.

Nothing this year made me so full of anticipation as the rumors of the legendary Stevie Wonder planning a long awaited (12 years to be precise) tour of the US, and nobody heard me squeal so profusely when I discovered those rumors were in actual fact - FACT!

For the millions of you who shared my delight, his tour which began in August has been a revelation. It was no wonder then that tickets were being sold at an alarming rate and I was somewhat (extremely) disappointed when I missed out. The good news is, ladies and gentleman, its not too late to be the bearer of a ‘golden ticket’. Sir Stevie Wonder has extended his tour and for those who missed out the first time round, tickets are now available to see our beloved icon in locations such as the Borgata Center in Atlantic City. As of October the 25th, Stevie will be giving us some live events throughout the east.

My ticket for the Borgata Center is in a safe place until the 27th of October arrives - the big day. After weeks of frustration, all my wishes came true with the announcement of the added dates. I am in no doubt that these tickets will soon be sold out too, so if your thinking about it, don’t! better not waste the time, just act on it. Come and join me boogieing on down to the likes of “Superstition”, “Higher Ground” and some of his later works; “So What the Fuss” and “Shelter in the Rain”.

So what made Stevie decide to tour after 12 years? Delighted as I was, I thought it was a little out of the blue. It has been reported that his inspiration came from the recent death of his mother, Lula Mae Hardaway. She is also the muse of his upcoming album “The Gospel Inspired by Lula”, to be released in January next year, coinciding with her birthday.

Stevie’s last studio album was titled “A Time to Love”. Emerging in 2005 and reaching number 5 in the Billboard 200, it was and still is a perfect blend of anthems and laid-back R&B/Soul. In a time when a lot of R&B is about drugs, money, or infidelity, Wonder’s lyrics offer us the innocence and simplicity of early Motown. A refreshing change I might add. After playing the album on repeat, for what seems like an eternity, I am more than a little excited to hear and see them live on stage.

I can’t comprehend for what might have been if I never bought my ticket for the Borgata. To me and to many others who have walked the globe since Stevie’s existence, the acceptance that this guy is a genius is just the beginning. I still find myself full of admiration for a man who is fully blind, but brimming with life and musical ambition. Everything that he’s recorded bares the tone of his jubilant positivity. He has taught us so much on issues of racial, social and spiritual context.

Stevie Wonder shares a love of music like I do and when I listen to him I feel on top of the world. No exaggeration. I can’t wait to see him later this month…Can you?

When you are headed to Atlantic City, you will find that you are in a great place for some fun in the sun, and when you are ready to start a party or to join one, you cannot beat the beach bars. The beach bars in Atlantic City are known for their lively environments and the great times that they offer to tourists and locals like, and when you are interested in having a great time, there are definitely a few that you need to check out.

For instance, when you don’t want to do anything fancy, why not consider the Atlantic City Hilton Beach Bar? This bar has a terrifically kitschy feel, and it is definitely stripped down. It might make you think of a bare shack on the beach, but there are some great things to check out. You can get some great wings, sausage and tacos here and you’ll find that if you are interested in a slightly older crowd, this is the way to go.

On the other hand, if you are in the mood for a place where you definitely won’t feel cramped, consider the beach bar at Trump Plaza. This place regularly has live bands in to perform and the crowd is pretty diverse and fun. You can get some great sandwiches and tacos, and when you are in the mood for something different, there’s the raw bar. You can take advantage of the luxury service that you can get from your own private cabana, and you can enjoy the luxury of being in one of the Sexiest Beach Bars, as decided by the Travel Channel.

If you are in the mood to be really close to the beach, you can’t get much closer than the Bikini Beach Bar at Bally’s. This bar is known for its live band and for its proximity to the water and you will find that though the food here is your basic bar food, it is plentiful and pretty tasty. Look for the Old Bay fries and the shrimp, and make sure that you stay long enough for the cocktails. There are many different theme nights that you can take advantage of when you are looking at the Bikini Beach Bar at Bally’s, so keep a look out for things like Latin Mondays and ’80s Wednesdays. There’s even a fun in the sun fashion show on Friday, so bring your best!

Take a moment to think about everything that you have heard about Atlantic City. The bar scene is among the most amazing in the world and when you are ready to have a good time, this is definitely the beach that you want to hit. With the beauty of the Atlantic Ocean as the backdrop, just about everything you do is somehow better, but even more so if it’s free. If, like many people, you’re worried you won’t be able to vacation somewhere as exciting as Atlantic City (AC) this year, relax and start packing your suitcase because here are five completely free and totally fun things to do in one of the greatest spots in all of the U.S.

1. Learn about Atlantic City’s History: Located on Garden Pier on Boardwalk at New Jersey Avenue, the Atlantic City Historical Museum showcases the widely diverse history of AC offering both free admission and parking to visitors. Before heading to the beach you can learn about Atlantic City’s culture through the permanent exhibit titled “Atlantic City, Playground of the Nation” which features vintage postcards and photographs, artifacts from the area, and also memorabilia from the famed Miss America pageants held in the city.

2. See a Free Outdoor Concert: Throughout the summer months concerts are held at Kennedy Plaza on the Boardwalk courtesy of the AC Free Public Library. Also free are summer concerts at Bally’s Casino in the Dennis Courtyard as well as multiple entertainers located all along the Boardwalk.

3. Experience Korean War History in Atlantic City: See the New Jersey Korean War Memorial on Brighton Park which is free to the public and offers a definite feeling of the area’s deep rooted history. The war memorial is open daily and gives visitors a chance to experience the important legacy left by our veterans.

4. More Free Culture and History in Atlantic City: Visit the tranquil Civil Rights Garden, located on Pacific Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard, and see its gorgeous flowers, the meandering pathways, and the awe inspiring eleven granite columns with inscriptions detailing the events that occurred during that time.

5. Enjoy the Wonders of the Beach and the Atlantic Ocean: There are no pricey beach badges or any type of fees needed to enjoy the beauty of Atlantic City’s beaches and any number of fun activities taking place there all year round.

Besides the usual swimming, sunbathing, and volleyball games, surfing is also permitted at three different beaches, either New Hampshire Avenue’s Crystal Beach, the Delaware Avenue Beach, or the Downtown Beach at Raleigh Avenue. None of the surfing beaches are staffed with lifeguards, and if you want to kayak or windsurf over at Jackson Avenue Beach, also without a lifeguard, be sure to bring your own equipment as there are no rentals.

As if all of that isn’t enough, fishing is permitted along the jetties near the Oriental and Main Avenue Boardwalks and you won’t even need to buy a license for salt-water fishing here. Just remember that no fishing is allowed near bathing beaches during the hours of 10am to 6pm when the lifeguards are on duty.

With all of the free things to do in Atlantic City you’re sure to need more than just one day to see and do everything the area has to offer. But luckily, since none of these fun activities require any money, maybe you’ll be able to stay an extra few days and really experience the city in all its glory.

Stand up comedians full fill a place in our lives that is two-fold. First we would love to do what they do, make people laugh and they also complete a part of us that needs laughter. So it’s no surprise that when a comedian like Gabriel Iglesias hits the scene he tickles your funny bone by poking at things you find funny and also enlightening you about things that can be funny.

Gabriel has a unique style that sets him apart from other stand up comics, he has great sound effects. He can tell a story and add the visuals along with the audio, he also has a really high voice so he can impersonate a woman and give her all sorts of accents. Most people have seen Mr. Fluffy doing stand up comedy in one form or another and his talent took him to the final rounds of NBC’s fourth installment of “Last Comic Standing” contest.

His attire usually consists of a Hawaiian shirt, a large Hawaiian shirt, and some shorts. Although he is large in frame, and he doesn’t mind telling you that, he seems very light on his feet and his talent for making people laugh is a gift he freely gives away, unless you’re paying to see his show. He tours all over the U.S.A. and he takes everyday situations and puts humor as the anecdote.

Comedy Central airs his special titled, “Hot and Fluffy” every once in a while and it’s an hour well spent with some of the funniest stories with all the sound effects to make that much more enjoyable. He has also been seen on The Tonight Show, The Late Late Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Showtime at the Apollo, he is always fresh and will keep you laughing from start to finish.

Television is not his only accolade; he has been in a couple of movies too. “El Matador” and “Surfer King” are his two movie credits. His best stories are when he tricks his friends and makes them the butt of the joke, they probably don’t think its funny at the time but he sure makes light of it. Gabriel is a comedian that deals with race relations from the Mexican American side and uses satire to bridge the learning gap.

His website boasts his achievements with Nickelodeon and Comedy Central. You can usually find a clip of him on line and his CD is available on iTunes. He does a lot of character voices, sound effects and impersonations. You can’t help but laugh when he starts to tell a story about his life. He doesn’t use writers either; all of his material is from real life. That’s what makes him so funny; he doesn’t fake it at all.

If you are looking for a comedian that will make you laugh and make you think then give Gabriel Iglesias or Fluffy Man a listen, he also goes by the name of Picachu in case you needed another alias to search him by.

 On May 29, 2009 an event almost 20 years in the making will occur! Comedian Jay Leno will be retiring from his iconic gig as the host of The Tonight Show! The long running, NBC program has been a favorite with friends and has won TV’s most prestigious award, the Emmy.

Less than 24 hours later on May 30, 2009, Jay will be live right here in Atlantic City! Come out and help Jay celebrate the next stage of his career before he starts his new primetime talk show on NBC.

The hilarious stand up comedian was born on April 28, 1950 in New Rochelle, New York. Jay has been a comedian since the 1970’s and has constantly strived to improve his craft. In his early days, he was constantly working at comedy clubs in New York and Boston.

Jay is now considered one of the greats of stand up. Unlike his contemporaries Jay does not use race related, drug humor or vulgarity to become a success Leno focused on a more feel good, everyman type of humor. Leno has followed in the footsteps of recognized and respected late night show hosts such as Steve Allen and Jack Paar. As well as Johnny Carson, who choose him to be his replacement on The Tonight Show.

Since 1992, Leno has been making American laugh with his humorous bits on the air. His opening monologue shows his comedic range and his roots in standup. With an observational style of delivery, Leno is able to equally cover and mock politics, current events and celebrities. Some of his most memorable bits on the show include the Jaywalking segment where Leno interviews real people and his Headlines segment where Leno recaps funny articles and advertisements from the media.

There is no doubting Leno’s popularity. His late night show has been the top performer in its time slot for over a decade. The biggest stars of film, TV and music have clamored to be interviewed by the late night host. Even president Barack Obama, choose to visit the late night host and show his respect in March!

Though The Tonight Show keeps him busy, Leno constantly performs at clubs, colleges and other venues all across the country and even around the world. If you are going to spend your hard-earned money on only one or two live acts this year this is the only live act you MUST SEE!

Chrisette Michele has taken the R&B and Soul industry by storm with her debut album, ‘I AM’ and returns with her sophomore tunes of heartbreak in Epiphany. Epiphany, a leading single, hit the airwaves earlier this year to start a more destined trend of solo ballads by female artists. Chrisette’s ability to create her own majestic personality lands her in the top spot for dynamic up-and-coming artists of R&B and Soul.

The 24-year old songwriter, singer, and composer was said to be a protégé as she completed her first solo at the age of 4. Her vocals favor that of Billy Holiday; a sensually intense vibe creating a stream of love-ballad songs of how great it is to love. She returns on the scene with the lead single, Epiphany, climbing charts across the board. Epiphany is unlike her debut album, I AM, because it’s stretched into heart-wrenching pain associated with bad relationships. She stands against the grain as she continues to move crowds with ‘Be Ok’, ‘Love Is You’, and ‘Let’s Rock’.

There’s much speculation surrounding her sophomore album and it leads critics wondering which level of R&B and Soul she will conquer this year. According to Chrisette Michele, she views this as a new introduction into another side of her mind, soul, and music.

Jazz and hip hop enthusiast claim Chrisette Michele as an elite, young soul with potential to ignite the industry in the next few years. We can see this predestined success as she moves through the industry leaving scents of impressions. And she’s reaching into different audiences during her US tour which comes to our beautiful Atlantic City on June 6th. The speculation continues to rise as fans rush to get front row tickets to listen in on this heavenly voice.

Holmes appeared in Atlantic City in February after 15 years and was better than ever. Where have you been Clint?  We missed you!

If you are looking for great entertainment and you are a music lover, you just can’t miss the return of Clint Holmes in Atlantic City.  You may have been lucky enough to catch him in Harrahs last February.  If so, you know what a treat it is to see this amazing musician.  And what a show he puts on!  But if you were unable to see him then, here’s your chance because he’s coming back to Atlantic City and will be performing at the Hilton throughout April.

Clint Holmes is what casino showroom entertainment is all about and something that’s been missing in Atlantic City for a while.  Well, with Clint Holmes now on the scene, things are as they should be.

This six-piece band is full of energy (and lots of volume) and gets the audience rocking in no time, with songs like  “I’ve Got You Under My Skin”.  As a matter of fact, the band gets it going before the curtain even rises! Holmes sings some of the classics from Sammy Davis Jr., Sinatra, and Peter Allen, but makes it his own.

There is so much energy from the crowd and such an upbeat fun feeling that it becomes contagious and wonderfully exhilarating. One man who had seen the Holmes concert remarked,  “It’s the kind of thing that stays with you days after the show is over. Just fantastic.  Brought me back to a great place!” And Homes is having fun too. “It’s like coming home,” he says to the audience during his last concert.

For newcomers, Holmes tells a bit of his interesting background.  He was born in England in ’47.  His mother was a white English opera singer and his father was a black American soldier who played jazz. Music surrounded him growing up.  

Holmes is currently writing a semi-autobiographical musical “I Sing” for Broadway with bandleader/musical director/ college friend Bill Fayne. So at his concert, his fans are in for a special treat with a sneak preview several of the numbers. One song, “1944,” which is about two people meeting in London, is absolutely wonderful in every way a song should be. Holmes also does a medley of “The Rose” and “You Raise Me Up” that blows the crowd away.

Holmes is dancing and singing and moving around on that stage in a way that defies his 61 years. His sister, Gale also makes an appearance and lights things up a bit. It’s a 70-minute show that is nonstop and gives you everything you could possibly want in a show.

Many different polls have this song-and-dance man “Atlantic City’s Entertainer of the Year”, “Las Vegas’s best singer”, and “Best All-around Las Vegas Performer”. Welcome home, Clint Holmes!  It’s entertainers like you who make the music come alive for so many of us.  We thank you!  Please never stop!

Ben Folds remains an interesting entertainer that has had a lengthy career presenting his unique blend of music. Now, adoring audiences in the northeast will have another opportunity to see what an evening with Ben Folds has to offer. Yes, the entertainer is once again putting on a show in Atlantic City. The concerts will support his new album and they will also present a Greatest Hits collection of many of his long favored popular songs.

Folds originally performed with his band The Ben Fold Five for many years. They underwent a breakup in 1980 and Folds performed as a solo ever since. He released two previous albums that were met with mixed success on the charts although generally would be well received by live audiences. His new album “Way To Normal” was released in September of 1980 and it presents Folds’ classic mix of humor and energy. Long time fans of Folds will certainly look forward to seeing his performance. Actually, those that may be unfamiliar with Ben Folds style of entertaining are suggesting to check out his concerts in Atlantic City. Experiencing Ben Folds live, in person, and for the first time can greatly sway an individual into becoming a fan for life.

In many ways, Folds’ music is a dramatic departure from what people will normally experience on the pop charts. Some of his songs are so humorous that they border on the novelty genre. Other songs are loud and intended to please (and rouse) and audience. Then, there are those songs that have a cerebral edge to them. This allows such deeper song to penetrate the audience on a more subconscious level. Yes, an evening with Ben Folds is surely to be a memorable one. That is why he has been such a solid attraction for many years.

Ben Folds will be performing in Atlantic City on the 24th of April at the House of Blues. This provides a very excellent venue for enjoying Ben Folds’ show. The size of the venue is intimate and small. This allows the audience to achieve a special closeness with the singer that would not be possible in a large arena. Considering the eclectic nature of Ben Folds musical style, such a unique approach is highly entertaining.

And, of course, the concert takes place in the backdrop of the exciting town of Atlantic City. Those looking for a night of fun after (or before) the concert can take part in casino gaming, fine dining, and even boardwalk attractions. This will make the concert event a thrilling evening filled with much enjoyment. Really, if you wish to attend a concert would you not want to attend one that is unforgettable?

Atlantic City has become a beach person’s paradise; its proximity to Philadelphia is an added advantage. The beaches are free and offer a wide range of options when it comes to surfside activities. Mississippi-ave Beach in front of the trump plaza, Boston ave, Chelsea ave, Park Place and Kingston ave are some of the top rated beaches of the city. The Beaches have full service Beach Bars generally with Live Music and Hot- Hip new place to hang out and while doing this entire round of delectation one does not have to worry about parking cars, there is ample amount of Valet or free parking available. Have kids with you? Visit Steel Pier Amusement Park or Ocean Life Center and Aquarium, Kids love it.

Chances are slim that you haven’t heard about Atlantic City’s Night life. From sports bar to dance clubs, comedy clubs, lounges, sports bars, concerts and more, nightlife in Atlantic City is electrifying and keeps you going till the sun comes up. Atlantic is a home to exciting live concerts and other events. Everybody can have it their own way. Blues, dancing, microbrew, drink specials and panoramic views of the city’s Marina only hint how amazing the experience can be.  Night life of AC is truly ecstatic and provides a unique experience. With plenty of casinos, resorts, shopping malls and day time attractions, Atlantic City lures a more upscale crowd. Moreover the crime rates are much lower than other cities which suggests Atlantic City is in no way a Las Vegas Counterpart. And the Sparkling casinos haven’t been mentioned yet; well they can take a break this time. There is so much more to do in Atlantic City than just A-class gambling. 24 hours really can’t do justice to this Fascinating Place.
